Wall Mounted
These racks can take a strain on your wall, especially when you consider the combined weight of their steel and six rifles hanging from the whole thing.
They’re a good choice if you want points for display and you have a proper wall to screw the brackets into. Wall mounted gun racks are usually cheaper than standalone units.
Standalone
Standalone units are usually made out of hardwood, like oak, and come as big pieces of furniture.
Most standalone models will have an ammunition and gun gear box in the bottom.
These may be mounted to the wall to prevent them from being tipped over, but are generally sound enough pieces of furniture to be okay on their own.
Spinning Base
These are the rotating ones you see in the glass display cases when you go to the department store.
They usually have a spinning base, a rod in the center, and a slotted top piece that allows the barrel of each gun to rest in the grooves.

WHAT IS THE BEST MATERIAL FOR YOUR GUN RACK?
Gun racks need something sturdy to stand on, otherwise you’d just be buying particle board bookshelves from the nearest department store. Steel is always something you want to see in gun rack construction. Steel, and solid wood like oak.
You will see plywood in many modern gun racks, but that’s just something that can’t be avoided. This plywood isn’t like the 1.5” sub flooring plywood that you see in pallets at the hardware store. They’re more like reinforced plywood with a finish or coating on top.
You might also see anodized aluminum. This isn’t as strong as steel, but still holds up well while cutting the cost down. Anodized aluminum won’t fade or lose sheen with age, so long as it’s kept indoors.
Last but not least, whatever material is being used, ensure it has a protective coating (or apply one yourself). Your guns scratching up against them repeatedly can wear down the integrity of your gun rack if you aren’t careful.
HOW TO SECURE YOUR GUN RACK?
Where do you want to place it? There are two different ways to secure a gun rack. To the wall (which we’ll talk about in a minute), and to the floor. Standing gun racks can easily be fastened to the floor by either using a bracket and screws, or if you don’t want to damage your floors, you can use doubleback tape.
Command hooks work surprisingly well on laminate and hardwood floors without damaging them. Just be sure the area has been cleaned, dried, and free of dust. In some instances, we’ve seen vertical gun racks fastened to other pieces of furniture.
There are a lot of great DIY projects out there that use a mixture of homemade desks and entertainment centers, and store-bought gun racks from suppliers like the ones we’ve mentioned here today, and create something fantastic.

HOW TO SECURE YOUR GUN RACK TO YOUR WALL?
Most gun racks that go to your wall are going to come with brackets and mounting gear included with your purchase. However, you can’t just slap these on the wall anywhere you want. That would destroy the sheetrock, and your guns would come tumbling down in no time at all.
Use a stud finder so you can secure the wall racks to a stable area. If you’re considering putting these in a garage or shed with a concrete wall, you’ll need specific concrete screws. Ideally, you’ll be able to combine the weight of the guns you own with the weight of the rack, and account for the resistance it has against your wall with that overall weight.
If stud finders fail and you don’t have any concrete walls in your home or on your property, there’s one last thing you can do. If you take a wall gun rack, much like the Hold Up Displays model we showcased earlier, you can place it on the ground up against the wall and screw the brackets to secure it to the sheetrock.
This isn’t going to prevent anyone from accessing the guns, but it means the rack won’t come out from the wall, and you won’t have to worry about gravity tearing your walls down.
